One would think that a team whose mascot is named Larry the Leprechaun would be the luckiest team in the NBA. Unfortunately, that is not correct.
That said, the Boston Celtics are widely regarded as the most successful franchise in the NBA. So, maybe not being quite so lucky when playing on St. Patrick’s Day is not that big of a deal.
As we await the start of the NBA Playoffs and the Celtics run for an unprecedented 19th NBA title, BetMassachusetts.com - your home for Massachusetts sports betting coverage - was curious about which NBA teams have the most luck of the Irish. Using Sports-Reference.com, we tallied the win total for each NBA team playing on March 17 over the past 10 seasons. The ranked list is based on the total percentage of wins.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Celtics have played just four times on March 17 since 2015. Their only loss on that date was a 117-110 defeat to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2021.
Boston has played on St. Patty’s Day the past two seasons, winning both. They beat the Portland Trail Blazers 126-112 on the road two years ago, and last year, they blew out the Washington Wizards 130-104. Jayson Tatum and Sam Hauser both scored 30 points to lead the Cs, who led 81-53 at halftime. It was their fifth win during a nine-game winning streak that helped the team secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference and home-court advantage throughout the NBA Playoffs.
No Luck This Season For Boston
This season, Tatum and company have St. Patrick’s Day off. They host the Brooklyn Nets the following day.
The Celtics find themselves second in the conference standings, with the 42-17 record 6.5 games behind the Cavaliers. They may not be leading the conference, but that has not deterred oddsmakers from keeping them as a favorite to win another NBA crown.
BetMGM Massachusetts has the Celts as its co-favorite, along with Western Conference leader Oklahoma City. Both teams have odds of +200 to win it all. Cleveland is next with odds of +650. Those three are the only teams with odds shorter than 10-1.
Among the player awards odds, guard Payton Pritchard is the favorite at Caesars Massachusetts Sportsbook to win the Sixth Man of the Year Award. He’s available at -190.
As always, the odds are subject to change.
