With the dog days of summer fully upon us, residents of cold weather locales like Massachusetts are running out of daylight, which means it’s high time to book that tee time and hit the links.
For Bay State residents, it appears that that call to arms (or clubs, in this case) has not fallen on deaf ears, with the Commonwealth scoring among the leaders in the nation when it comes to topics related to the pastime.
National Golf Month is celebrated in August. At BetMassachusetts.com, we wanted to see what states have the greatest interest in golfing to honor the month-long holiday. Using Google Trends, we tallied up the search interest scores for “golf,” “golf courses,” and “golf lessons,” between July 30, 2023 – July 30, 2024.

When based on search interest totals alone, Massachusetts finished with the 10th highest figure, scoring 154 points in total to finish directly behind No. 9 Iowa, which had 161 points.
Nationally, the leaders in golf search interest totals were states like Minnesota, which had 271 points, followed by Michigan (260 points), Nebraska (249 points), Utah (238 points) and South Carolina (187 points).
Throw in outliers like Wisconsin (173 points), Colorado (168 points), North Dakota (164 points) and Iowa (161 points) and you have the full rundown of the states that beat out Massachusetts on the links.
Still, the state ranked among the leaders in golf interest, speaking to the Bay State’s longstanding connection to the links.
