Now that the Christmas season is in full swing, it’s worth taking a greater look at what holiday ditties are the most popular ones in states like Massachusetts, with a handful of classics ranking atop the Bay State’s list in 2024.  

Whether it be a midcentury crooner classic like Bing Cosby’s 1942 hit “White Christmas” or Bobby Helms’ 1957 staple “Jingle Bell Rock”, it’s clear that Massachusetts natives have their Christmas songs of choice down pat in 2024.  

At BetMassachusetts.com, your home for the best Massachusetts sports betting coverage, we were curious about local’s favorite Christmas songs. Using Google Trends, we found the top five most popular Christmas songs based on search interest scores on December 17, 2004.

It's a Jingle Bell Rock in Massachusetts

When broken down by search interest totals, Helms pulls out the slightest of wins in Massachusetts, with his 1957 classic “Jingle Bell Rock” scoring 15 search interest points to beat out Bing Cosby’s 1942 classic “White Christmas” (13 search interest score) and the 19th century carol “Silent Night,” which finished the year with a search interest score of 12 points in the Bay State.  

Rounding out the Massachusetts quintet of holiday jams for the year, search interest score wise, were “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Lee (nine search interest score), while “Santa Baby” by Eartha Kit was fifth with a search interest score of eight points in Massachusetts this year.  

Of the five, none of them can be termed anything close to “modern,” with the newest song of the lot being “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” in 1958, while the other top picks for the holiday season this year dating back as far as the 19th century, speaking to Massachusetts’ love of classics come Christmastime.
