With Halloween approaching closer by the day and millions of children about to set out to collect as much “trick or treating” candy as possible, now seems like the right time to assess where Massachusetts residents fall on the candy spectrum. So we took a dessert break from covering Massachusetts sports betting topics to find out. Here are the results, state by state:
While chocolate candy favorites vary widely based on personal preferences, residents of the Bay State seem to fall solidly behind Hershey’s chocolate and peanut butter cup confection, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. The PB&C chocolate morsel beat out Snickers and M&M’s, which were the No. 2 and 3 choices for residents from Massachusetts, showing how much love locals have for the Pennsylvania stalwart.
Nothing could be sweeter for New England sports fans than the Celtics or Bruins cashing futures tickets at Massachusetts betting apps, but these treats on Halloween come pretty close.
With Halloween coming Oct. 31, and National Chocolate Day just before on Oct. 28, BetMassachusetts.com used Statista’s research on the most consumed chocolate candy as a starting point. Then we used Google Trends to search the level of interest in each chocolate candy from Oct, 1, 2022 to Oct. 18, 2023. We then determined the Top 3 chocolate candies of each state.
Overall, 19 states (including Massachusetts) picked Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as their go-to chocolate candy of choice, the most of any brand. In second was Kit Kat bars, which won 11 states, followed by Snickers (seven) and M&M’s (five).
Other states that joined the Bay State – where we bring you the best Massachusetts betting promos – in picking Reese’s as their No. 1 choice included Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin.
It seems like each fall, Americans from sea to shining sea can relate over one thing — that being their shared love for Hershey’s timeless peanut butter cupped chocolate concoction.
We hope this list is a great way to get into the Halloween spirit. If you’re more into the spookier side of the annual holiday – or maybe you’d like to tell a few ghost stories while grabbing a fistful of candy – check out our list of most haunted cities in Massachusetts to get in the mood.
