Massachusetts Among Best States For Beer Lovers

With baseball season underway and Massachusetts sports betting now live, many sports fans lately find themselves grabbing a cold beer at Fenway Park, their local bar, or even their favorite new retail sportsbook.

Few places have the bounty of brewed options that the state of Massachusetts does, with more than 200 craft breweries in the Bay State alone.

With National Beer Day arriving on April 7, we decided to look at the best states to celebrate in if you are a big fan of beer. When it comes to determining the best, we looked at quality, quantity and affordability.

BetMassachusetts.com utilized three combined data points to develop the ranking of the 50 states from best to worst  for beer lovers. We utilized BeerAdvocate.com to get the average rating of beers brewed in the state (ratings given out of 5), BrewersAssociation.org to get the amount of breweries per capita (per 100,000 residents) and MakeBeerEasy.com for the average price of a 24-pack per state.

Once acquiring that information, we averaged out the ranking of the states to get our final rankings

Massachusetts Among Top States For Beer Lovers

The Bay State found itself ranked just outside the top 10 of our rankings, but ahead of fellow craft beer destinations like California nationally.

Massachusetts’ No. 13 ranking came about largely thanks to the quality of the state’s locally crafted beer, which allowed it to climb the ranks in spite of the lack of quantity (27th nationally) and affordability (25th).

Between longstanding national breweries, such as Sam Adams and Harpoon Brewery, and more niche brands such as Cisco Brewers and Cape Cod Beer, there’s no shortage of suds in the state.

Luckily for beer lovers, 86% of the state’s breweries are visitable (per the Massachusetts Brewers Guild), with 198 of the 230 having tap rooms or other areas that are open to the public.

All of that means that Massachusetts is a haven for beer lovers, with a plethora of beer options to choose from.
