Harvard freshman guard Malik Mack sure made an impact on the Ivy League school in his first season.
Mack averaged 17.2 points, 4.8 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in 33.2 minutes per game, leading Harvard to a 14-13 overall and 5-9 Ivy League record this season. His season-long performance earned him Ivy League Rookie of the Year and gained recognition as a Lou Henson Award finalist and Kyle Macy Award finalist.
His season scoring totals had Mack, who has a current ON3 college rating of 94 (four stars), ranked 114th in the NCAA (17.2 points per game) and third in the nation among first year players. Despite hopes of renewed vigor and optimism in Cambridge next season, Mack, like so many current collegiate players, has decided to take his career onto a new path, entering the ever-expanding transfer portal March 26. Chances are Mack is going back home to Washington, D.C., to play for Georgetown, who is the favorite at +200 (33.3% chance).
Mack, who attended St. John’s College High School (D.C.), was selected as the 2022-23 Gatorade Player of the Year for Washington, D.C., and helped lead the school to a 32-4 record as a senior, ranking as a top-25 team in the nation according to ESPN and MaxPreps.
Mack would provide instant scoring for the Hoyas and second-year coach Ed Cooley, who finished with a 9-23, 2-18 Big East record this season. Syracuse and Northwestern tied for second on the list at +800 (11.1%), while Indiana and Maryland each tied for fourth at +1200 (7.7%).
