Which NFL Teams Have the Largest Global Audience?

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Each year, several NFL teams get the golden opportunity to jet set their way to a random country and play a regular season game in front of thousands of people who have likely never seen a professional football game in person, thanks to the NFL International Series.

The series dates back to 2007, when the NFL played its first regular season game in Europe on Oct. 28, with the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants squaring off inside Wembley Stadium in London, with the series blooming to countries far and wide.

In 2024, five games were held internationally, with three held in London, including the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets — who all played games inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium — while the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots competed inside Wembley Stadium.

Throw in a single German game between the Carolina Panthers and New York Giants in Munich and the NFL’s first foray into Brazil with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers duking it out in Sao Paulo and you have the full rundown of NFL international games from the season that was.

Next season, the NFL has its first ever regular season game in Ireland with the Pittsburgh Steelers scheduled to play in Dublin. BetMassachusetts.com paused its typical Massachusetts sports betting coverage and was curious to see what NFL team has the largest international audience as the NFL looks to expand its presence worldwide. Using Google Trends, we found the search interest scores for each NFL team with a 20-year worldwide search done on February 13, 2025.

Which NFL Fanbases Are Most Excited About International Games?

Of the 32 fanbases in the NFL, only the Dallas Cowboys had a higher search interest related to the NFL’s international series than the Patriots, with the former posting a score of 26 points while the latter was one point behind with a search interest score of 25 points.

Overall, New England’s fans finished seven points ahead of the Miami Dolphins and Eagles, who had 18 points apiece, while the Minnesota Vikings, Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers were tied for fifth with scores of 17 points each and the Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints and New York Giants tied for eighth leaguewide with scores of 14 points apiece.

Overall, few fans across today’s NFL are more jazzed at the prospect of having their chosen team journey beyond the borders of the Lower 48 than the Patriots, though, with New England faithful posting one of the highest search interest scores in the league when it came to topics having to do with the league’s gridiron forays overseas.
