For the second time in as many seasons, the New England Patriots are on the lookout for a new head coach, as the AFC East franchise fired Jerod Mayo on the backside of the club’s 4-13 campaign this season.
Mayo’s brief tenure in Foxborough was mired by failure on both sides of the ball, with New England skidding their way to a 4-13 campaign for a second straight season, ultimately leading owner Robert Kraft to make the move to replace Mayo on the sidelines in an attempt to increase the Patriots Super Bowl odds.
Now, the question moves on to which candidate Kraft and company choose to replace Mayo as the Patriots next head coach, with former franchise cornerstone Mike Vrabel being the leading candidate to be the next man up for the franchise.
With that in mind, BetMassachusetts.com used its Massachusetts sports betting mindset and broke down some hypothetical odds on which candidate has the best chance of being the next head coach of the New England Patriots after Mayo’s firing on Sunday.

Who Replaces Jerod Mayo in New England?
Right now, we’re going with Vrabel as the top candidate to replace Mayo, as the former Patriots linebacker and three-time Super Bowl champion with the franchise holding +200 odds of being the next head coach in New England.
Vrabel was largely successful in his first and only head coaching stop, going 54-45 (.545) in six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, with three playoff appearances and two postseason victories during that timeframe.
The 2007 All-Pro linebacker with New England ranks ahead of other Patriots head coaching candidates, such as Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who checks in at +800 to replace Mayo, while Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores (+1000), Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury (+1250 apiece) are the next closest contenders.
Longshot candidates to replace Mayo include a pair of NFL offensive coordinators, in Todd Monken of the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Brady of the Buffalo Bills, who are listed at +1500 apiece right now.
For now, what we do know is that New England is on the lookout for a new head coach once again, with Kraft and his front office team needing to land the right guy for the job at hand ahead of the 2025 NFL regular season.
