New England Patriots Offensive Coordinator Candidates: Who Will Join Mike Vrabel’s Staff?

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

Now that the New England Patriots have their next head coach picked out, it’s time to wonder who Mike Vrabel will go with to replace Alex Van Pelt as the team’s offensive coordinator, with whichever candidate gets the job needing to help rookie quarterback Drake Maye take the next step in his on-field evolution this fall.

Van Pelt leaves New England after a difficult season, where the Patriots went 4-13 and finished dead last in the 32-team league in passing yards per game, at 176.1 YPG, while ranking 30th overall in terms of points scored (17.0 PPG), underlining how badly needed the team’s offensive evolution is needed in Foxborough.

While New England’s longtime OC under former head coach Bill Belichick - Josh McDaniels - is the early favorite to replace Van Pelt in 2025, Vrabel’s choices are pretty wide-open as of now.

That’s why our Massachusetts sports betting experts broke down some hypothetical odds on which OC candidate has the best shot at being New England’s next play caller, with Vrabel needing a point person on offense in 2025 and beyond.

Who is the Next OC in New England?

Our top pick right now to replace Van Pelt is McDaniels, who served as New England’s offensive coordinator in three separate stints between 2006 and 2021, with head coaching stops with the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders thrown in.

McDaniels checks in at +350 to be Vrabel’s OC pick, leading other external candidates like Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach and pass game coordinator Nick Caley (+475).

Throw in New York Giants tight ends coach Tim Kelly (+600) and Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks coach Josh McCown at +900 and you have the frontrunners to be New England’s next offensive coordinator, while Van Pelt is still an outside contender for his old role, at +1250.

Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach Charles London, who is also listed at +900, as the Patriots look for the right man to resuscitate the AFC East stalwart’s offensive unit in 2025, on the heels of consecutive 4-13 campaigns that ultimately cost Belichick and Jerod Mayo their jobs in Foxborough.
