The glory days of the New England Patriotsā dynasty days are long gone, with the AFC East squad going 12-22 and missing the postseason in each of the last two seasons under legendary head coach Bill Belichick.
Now, one of Belichickās former assistants is in charge of the club, as former team captain and defensive assistant coach Jerod Mayo takes over as the first new head coach in Foxborough since 2000.
Mayo does so in a year where New England faces the longest odds of any AFC East team at capturing the division, with the team at FanDuel Sportsbook Massachusetts giving the Patriots +2700 odds of winning the four-team collective in 2024.
It seems like New Englandās falling fortunes have extended beyond the gridiron, however, as the Patriots home grounds at Gillette Stadium ranked as one of the worst in the AFC East when it came to tailgating experience.
At BetMassahusetts.com, we wanted to see what NFL teams have the best tailgating in preparation for the 2024 NFL season. Using Stadium-Journey.com and Sports-Reference.com, we created a scoring system factoring in food and beverage, atmosphere, fans, return on investment, and each teamās record from the 2023 season.
Rank | Team | Total Score |
1 | Buffalo Bills | 188 |
2 | Miami Dolphins | 184 |
3 | New England Patriots | 182 |
4 | New York Jets | 174 |
Of the four teams in the AFC East, New Englandās total score of 182 for the tailgating metrics referenced above ranked third overall, ahead of the New York Jets, who finished with the lowest score at 174 points.
Across the AFC East, the Buffalo Bills finished with the highest point total, at 188, while the Miami Dolphins were the next closest team, coming in at 184 points to cap off this yearās tailgating rankings.
For Mayo and company, the goal in 2024 has nothing to do with tailgating, as the Patriots look to turn a corner under their new leadership after sputtering down the stretch of the Belichick era in Massachusetts.
