Thomas Castellanos Next Team Odds: Where Will Boston College QB Transfer?

Fact Checked by Nate Hamilton

One of the best turnaround stories in college football this year took a turn for the weird when Boston College Eagles starting quarterback virtually disappeared this week after head coach Bill O’Brien opted to go with the Eagles’ backup after starter Thomas Castellanos hit 2/7 passes for 14 yards in a 37-31 win over Syracuse on Saturday.

The junior QB out of Georgia is apparently headed for the transfer portal after O’Brien opted to go with Grayson James over Castellanos when the 5-4 Eagles play No. 14 SMU in Dallas this weekend, leading many to wonder where the former UCF and BC QB will go next.

According to a report from On3.com, O’Brien said that Castellanos opted to step away from team activities after being benched on Saturday, with the second-year starter in Chestnut Hill likely taking his last snaps with the Eagles.

“Tommy has done a great job for us,” O’Brien said. “He’s an awesome competitor. We have a lot of respect for Tommy. Obviously, he wasn’t real thrilled with that so he’s taking a couple days (away from the team), so I’ll get back to you on that one. But, Grayson James will be the starter.”

With all that in mind, BetMassachusetts.com used its Massachusetts sports betting mindset to break down some hypothetical odds on where Castellanos will go next after this week’s news out of BC, with a pair of ACC destinations atop our rankings:

Where Will Castellanos Suit Up Next?

Given Castellanos’ past ties to UCF and the southeast in general, it’s likely of little surprise to learn that QB-needy ACC programs like FSU (+500) and Miami (+700) are atop our list to land the junior out of Waycross, Georgia, while two SEC programs (Auburn and Vanderbilt) are listed at +1100 apiece.

Throw in the Texas State Bobcats and Memphis Tigers of the American Athletic Conference at +1250 apiece and a home state option in Georgia Tech at +1500 and you have the full rundown on the programs that we see going after Castellanos this offseason.

For now, what we know is that the two-year starter in Chestnut Hill is likely to have played his last game for the Eagles, opening the door for a new team to swoop in and land the junior gunslinger who’s thrown for 33 touchdowns across 26 games with UCF and BC.
