A Boston tradition continues Monday with a new wrinkle added to the mix for fans to enjoy.
The 70th annual men's Beanpot Tournament starts Monday, as four Boston college hockey powers meet under the TD Garden roof for city bragging rights.
In the first game, Boston College (9-10-6) will face Harvard (15-6-1), ranked No. 8 in the latest USCHO Top 20 rankings, at 5 p.m. The defending champion, No. 3 Boston University (20-6), will face Northeastern (13-10-3) in the nightcap at 8 p.m. The consolation and championship will take place Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
What’s the new addition, you ask?
You can bet on it for the first time.
Retail Massachusetts sportsbooks launched last Tuesday. Although you can’t wager on in-state collegiate teams during the regular season, you can wager on them in a tournament format with a minimum of four teams.
Currently, three casinos have retail sportsbooks where you can place a wager: Plainridge Park Casino (Barstool Sportsbook), Encore Boston Harbor in Everett (WynnBET) and MGM Springfield (BetMGM Massachusetts).

Boston University claimed its first Beanpot title since 2015 with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Northeastern, thanks to forward Dylan Peterson’s game-winning goal. Goaltender Vinny Duplessis recorded 19 saves for the Terriers to earn the win.
The matchup marked the second consecutive Beanpot Tournament — and third of the last four — in which Boston University faced Northeastern in the final.
With this year’s pairings, that obviously won’t happen this year.
