The WR View from New England

New England Patriots wide receiver Tyquan Thornton finished in a tie for fifth with Jahan Dotson of the Washington Commanders and Darnell Mooney of the Chicago Bears.

Thornton’s final PPR ranking last season was within the top 100 at 98. This year, his preseason ranking is 82 (a 16-point difference from a year ago). The second-year, second-round pick from Baylor played in 13 games last season and caught 22 passes (45 targeted) for 247 yards (11.2 avg. yards per catch) and two touchdowns.

Any boost from Thornton would go a long way in improving the Patriots playoff chances.

With fellow veteran teammates JuJu Smith-Schuster, DeVante Parker and Kendrick Bourne all virtually assured of making the roster, Thornton must step up his game and make an impact in the team’s final two preseason road games: Saturday at the Green Bay Packers (8 p.m.) and Aug. 25 at the Tennessee Titans (8:15).

In the team’s 20-9 loss to the Houston Texans last Thursday, Thornton caught both of his targets for 31 yards, 27 on a leaping grab from quarterback Bailey Zappe. He played 14 snaps in the game, his largest of the preseason thus far.
