What Are They Saying?

“With the sports calendar gaining momentum and multiple Massachusetts teams having remarkable seasons, it’s a great time to bring a new entertainment experience to sports fans in the Commonwealth,” said Eric Hession, president of Caesars Digital, in a news release.

“Caesars Sportsbook is primed to deliver a best-in-class sports wagering experience to Massachusetts sports fans, and we’d like to thank the Massachusetts Gaming Commission for approving our expansion into the Bay State.”

Retail Soon?

Pending approval by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), Caesars Sportsbook plans to offer in-person sports wagering and convenient mobile account cash deposits at legendary Raynham Park, just south of Boston.

Caesars Sportsbook at Raynham Park will open as a temporary sportsbook inside its current simulcasting facility in spring 2023 before expanding to a 30,000-square-foot sportsbook inside one of the biggest standalone sports betting and pari-mutuel simulcasting establishments in the nation.

How the State Got Here

Legislation for legal Massachusetts sports betting was approved on Aug. 1, 2022 and signed into law by then-Gov. Charlie Baker on Aug. 10.

On Dec. 21, the MGC voted unanimously that Caesars Massachusetts Sportsbook is preliminarily suitable for a temporary Category 3 (mobile) sports wagering operator license, which will be tethered to the Category 1 (retail) license awarded to Encore Boston Harbor.

Three casinos with retail sportsbooks opened on Jan. 31: Plainridge Park Casino (Barstool Massachusetts Sportsbook), MGM Springfield (BetMGM Massachusetts Sportsbook) and Encore Boston Harbor in Everett (WynnBET).
