The Boston Celtics became the third team since the NBA-ABA merger of 1976 to earn multiple 50-point margins of victory in a single season last month when they shellacked Brooklyn, 136-86, joining their 51-point win over Indiana in November.
As if that wasn’t enough, Joe Mazzulla’s team went out Sunday and throttled Golden State 140-88, the 52-point margin of victory serving as the third-largest in franchise history — behind a 133-77 victory over Chicago on Dec. 18, 2018 and a 128-75 win over Sacramento on Jan. 25, 2022.
It also knocked off that 51-point win over the Pacers as the most lopsided of the year for the Celtics, who currently are the No. 1 NBA title favorite at +225 odds on ESPN BET Massachusetts. The three blowouts also put Boston atop a rather interesting list in NBA history.

Celtics Achieving History in 2024
The Celtics are the only team in the modern NBA to have three 50-point wins in a single season, moving past the 1992-93 Kings and 1978-79 Milwaukee Bucks, who had two such wins in a single year.
The ability to throttle your competition on occasion isn’t an indication of yearlong success, however, as that Kings team finished 25-57 (.305), while the Bucks were 38-44 (.463) in 1978-79.
Neither of those teams were good enough to reach the sport’s postseason, which isn’t a problem for the Celtics, who currently have the NBA’s best record at 48-13, five-and-a-half games ahead of the next closest team (the Minnesota Timberwolves). Massachusetts sports betting sites have Boston’s win total at 64.5.
At the moment, Mazzulla and the Celtics are looking to get back on track in Denver against the Nuggets on Thursday night after falling to Cleveland, 105-104 on Tuesday. While Boston is the clear frontrunner (-120 odds) to win the NBA’s Eastern Conference, Massachusetts betting apps list Cleveland at fourth with +1000 odds.
