Launched in 2012, Boston-based DraftKings’ dream will be fulfilled in the Commonwealth on Friday at 10 a.m. when Massachusetts sportsbooks launch sports betting apps and sites.
It will become the 21st state DraftKings has launched in, either with a retail or mobile product.
DraftKings’ iGaming product is also live in five states and Ontario, Canada.
In addition, DraftKings’ daily fantasy sports product is available in 44 states, certain Canadian provinces and the United Kingdom and is both an official daily fantasy and sports betting partner of the NFL, NHL, PGA TOUR and UFC, as well as an official daily fantasy partner of NASCAR, an official sports betting partner of the NBA and an authorized gaming operator of MLB.

DraftKings will be hosting several activations around Boston leading up to the launch and after. That includes Boston sports watch parties, a ceremonial bet celebration with DraftKings CEO and co-founder Jason Robins, special guests, and more.

To raise additional awareness about the arrival of legal online sports betting in the state, DraftKings will premiere a “Bet Local” commercial, starting Friday. It will feature notable hometown sports heroes and celebrities, including David Ortiz, Zdeno Chara, Brian Scalabrine and comedian Lenny Clarke.

“It was just over 10 years ago when we launched DraftKings from a spare bedroom in Watertown, and now, we are proud to have the opportunity to deliver a safe and legal sports betting product to millions of diehard sports fans across Massachusetts,” said Robins, DraftKings’ co-founder, chief executive officer and chairman, in a news release.
“This launch will mark a major milestone for our company, and we’re proud to become the hometown sportsbook for customers in the Commonwealth.”
How They Got Here
Former Gov. Charlie Baker signed Bill H.5164 on Aug 10, 2022, which officially Massachusetts sports betting.
On Jan. 11, DraftKings was approved by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission and eight days later, the MGC voted unanimously for DraftKings to have a Category 3 (mobile) temporary untethered sports wagering operator license.
Retail sports betting in the state launched on Jan. 31 at MGM Springfield (BetMGM Massachusetts), Encore Boston Harbor (WynnBet) and Plainridge Park Casino (Barstool). Those three sportsbooks and DraftKings will all launch their apps and betting sites on Friday.

When Will Revenue Figures Be Announced?

Massachusetts is expected to post an annual betting handle of about $5 billion, according to a story last month at BetMassachusetts.com.
Official monthly handle/revenue figures for the state will be released by the MGC on/about the 15th of every month, with mobile expected to make its first appearance in April’s report.
